Council

I have over a decade of experience of campaigning for Labour across Altrincham and Sale West.  In 2019, I became the first ever Labour councillor elected to represent Ashton upon Mersey ward on Trafford Council.

I’ve previously been the Chair of the council’s Planning and Development Management Committee.  I’m currently a member of its Health Scrutiny Committee, holding local healthcare commissioners and providers to account and I’m a member of the Poverty Action Group.

    Community

I’m rooted in my local community and it’s humbling to work with so many dedicated local heroes working hard to make our community the very best it can be.  It was a pleasure to get my hands dirty to support Ashton Village Always in Bloom who won two regional awards in 2019.  I’ve supported the Friends of Ashton Village, the Friends of Ashton Park and local litter picks in Altrincham and Sale.

Our economy isn’t delivering growth that is fair.  Often those with the most direct stake in a business or a group bring the best solutions to help grow our community wealth and wellbeing.  That’s why I’m a member of Labour’s sister party – The Co-operative Party – empowering and advocating for our local communities to realise their own ideas to solve the challenges of our age by democratic ownership models.  I’ve also supported Co-op Party campaigns on Food Justice, Modern Slavery and Fair Tax.  As one of the drivers behind the Trafford Solar Co-operative, I’m working to address our climate crisis by promoting a co-operative model to generate zero carbon energy locally.

    Compassion

I’ve used my voice on Trafford Council to regularly speak out and lobby the government for a fairer funding settlement for local services in Trafford.

I volunteer at the council’s Sale West Community hub, working with local stakeholders to help deliver essential shopping and medication to vulnerable residents during Covid and winter warmer packs to vulnerable residents during the winter.  I’ve also helped to welcome refugees from Ukraine as they make Altrincham and Sale West their new home.

I’ve campaigned for Free School Meal funding during school holidays and raised awareness of credit unions, Healthy Start vouchers and the Energyworks scheme.
